The statistics speak for themselves: rural tourism in Europe in 2020 provides around 6 million bed spaces in 500,000 services, representing around 15% of the total accommodation capacity of Europe. Together with related services in gastronomy and active tourism, the sector generates more than €100 billion in direct spending – mostly in the local economy - and is a critical element for the vitality of many rural areas.
Demand for real, authentic experiences and services in tourism is steadily increasing. A growing number of experienced visitors is looking for traditional culture and lifestyle, nature, gastronomy, healthy environment, culture and history. All these elements are at the heart of rural tourism that shows consistent growth above the average of the tourism sector as a whole.
The visitor expects real experiences, tangible, to be touched and felt. On the other hand, daily life and communication are increasingly virtual and digital. This offers opportunities, but also creates risks. How to use modern service design and digitalization while safeguarding the real and authentic rural experience? – this is the topic of our 7th European Congress on Rural Tourism.
The 7th European Congress on Rural Tourism arranges its programme alongside the following main blocks:
Presentations and discussion combine conceptual and strategic views with
practical examples and cases to find similar understandings and exchange
experiences in Europe and worldwide. This will be achieved through
innovative elements before and during the event:
